Rush Street Interactive Appoints Brian Sapp as Chief Marketing Officer
Rush Street Interactive (RSI) has declared the appointment of Brian Sapp, a veteran executive, as their inaugural Chief Marketing Officer.
Sapp will be joining RSI’s leadership team, reporting directly to CEO Richard Schwartz. This marks his initial foray into the gambling sector.
He assumes this new role following nearly three years as Head of Growth for the virtual reality game Rec Room. Sapp also dedicated three and a half years to video game developer Jam City.
Earlier in his professional journey, Sapp contributed to Warner Bros.’ WB Games San Francisco division. He served as the Director of Digital Publishing, overseeing user acquisition, analytics, and revenue generation.
Sapp has also held positions at social and mobile app company Tapjoy and EMI Music Publishing. He also established the music discovery platform FuzzedOut.com. Furthermore, he has served as an advisor and investor in emerging companies for the past eight years.
Sapp aims to assist RSI in sustaining its growth trajectory.
Commenting on his appointment, Sapp expressed his enthusiasm for joining RSI, which he perceives as an exciting juncture for the company.
“I am delighted to join Rush Street Interactive at a time when the company is experiencing such robust growth,” Sapp stated.
RSIs customer-focused approach truly captivated me. As a marketing specialist, I fully grasp that in the fiercely competitive mobile market, achievement depends on prioritizing the customer.
I am excited to utilize my experience and knowledge to propel RSI’s progress in the upcoming phase, delivering exceptional encounters for our clientele.
Schwarz, the chief executive, also welcomed the appointment, declaring that Sapp will bolster the company’s ongoing growth plans.
“As we continue to grow and expand in the Americas, Brian’s distinctive gaming and mobile expertise, strategic insight, and creativity will invigorate our marketing team as we collaboratively shape the brand’s future and consistently innovate customer-focused experiences,” Schwarz stated.
“We warmly welcome him to the team to lead our marketing strategy, personnel, and operations.”
Rush Street Interactive Surpasses 2023 Profit Targets
This appointment follows RSI’s announcement last month that it had surpassed its 2023 profit targets, fueled by record-breaking fourth-quarter outcomes.
Revenue increased 16.7% year-on-year to $691.2 million (£546.1 million/€636.7 million). This figure aligns with the $630 million to $700.1 million range anticipated at the start of 2023.
Although RSI remained in a net loss for the entire year, the $18.3 million loss was considerably lower than the $38.6 million loss in 2022. Moreover, adjusted EBITDA became profitable for the entire year, exceeding RSI’s predictions of achieving profitability only in the latter half of the year.
RSI also seized this opportunity to discuss possible expansion plans for 2024.
This will concentrate on the United States and Canada, with operations encompassing a broad spectrum of marketplaces.
We’re especially interested in New York, Maryland, and Illinois in the US, as well as provinces like Alberta in Canada.
