Chapter 27: Representative Dina Titus Talks About the Gaming Group and GRIT
As the representative for Nevada’s 1st Congressional District and co-leader of the Congressional Gaming Group, she is a key industry backer at the national level.

Addressing the Excise Tax Issue
Representative Titus also led the effort to remove the 0.25% federal excise tax on sports betting transactions.

This money is placed into the general fund, rather than being used to fight illegal gambling. She questioned why not decrease the tax so that legal businesses could better compete with offshore operators by offering more appealing products?

GRIT is Not the Answer
However, the representative opposes the Gambling Addiction Recovery, Investment, and Treatment Act (GRIT Act), which seeks to reallocate this tax revenue to treat problem gambling.

She informed the Global Politics Series that the bill’s supporters did not consult with the Gaming Group and disregarded state legislation, which almost always requires the provision of problem gambling funds.

Catch the entire broadcast to hear Representative Titus discuss the growth of gaming, combating illicit activities, and prioritizing player security.
