New Chief Executive Appointed at Ontario’s Alcohol and Gaming Commission
The Ontario regulator responsible for alcohol and gambling has named a new chief executive. Dr. Karin Schnarr took on the position on September 18th, bringing extensive experience from her background in higher education and public service.
Dr. Schnarr joins the agency from the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University, where she was an Associate Professor of Strategic Management. Her responsibilities at Laurier also included instructing in the Policy Area and leading courses on strategic management. She was heavily involved in the university’s administration, holding positions on both the Board of Governors and the Senate. Before her tenure at Laurier, Dr. Schnarr held a number of leadership roles within the Ontario government, including a post as Chief of Staff where she advised on public policy, regulations, and laws.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Schnarr has been an advocate for women. She was the Chair of the Ontario Women’s Economic Empowerment Expert Panel, which concentrated on tackling the specific obstacles women encounter in professional settings, especially in fields such as STEM and business creation.
In her most recent role, Dr. Schnarr was a member of the Board of Directors for iGaming Ontario, where she led the Corporate Affairs Committee.
The AGCO board is delighted to announce Dr. Schnarre as their next chief executive officer. They conveyed appreciation to the departing CEO, Tom Mungeam, who shared his intention to retire previously this year.
This announcement follows a recent event where AGCO received a penalty of $74,387 from Ontario authorities for failing to comply with responsible gaming standards connected to Apollo Entertainment.
