Amaya Rebrands as The Stars Group, Leaving Behind Past Controversies
The online gaming behemoth from Canada, Amaya, has formally adopted the name The Stars Group. This shift, approved by stakeholders earlier in 2017, includes a revitalized company image, a redesigned web presence, and a headquarters move from Montreal to Toronto.
Recognized for its prominent brands PokerStars and BetStars, the firm intends to introduce a period that showcases its strong expansion with this rebranding. This progress continues despite a minor decrease in online poker earnings in the initial quarter of 2017, as the corporation still maintains an almost 10% total growth percentage compared to the preceding year.
Nevertheless, rumors imply the title change is also a calculated measure to separate the corporation from its contentious history and former chief executive, David Baazov. A longstanding leader of the organization, Baazov is presently facing scrutiny for insider trading accusations connected to the company’s $4.9 billion purchase of Rational Group in 2014.
Further complicating matters, Baazov had disclosed intentions last February to buy Amaya and take it private. These ambitions were swiftly abandoned after he was notified of the inquiry by Quebec’s securities regulator, the Autorité des marchés financiers.
As Amaya evolves into The Stars Group and establishes itself in its new central office, it also welcomes a substantial investment from abroad. Tang Hao, a businessperson from Hong Kong, is augmenting his ownership in the corporation, anticipated to exceed 15%.
